Join CSIR’s Data Intensive Research Initiative of South Africa (DIRISA) to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge data science projects. This internship focuses on machine learning, data analysis, and software development to support South Africa’s cyberinfrastructure and socio-economic development.

Responsibilities

• Data Science & Analytics:
• Collect, analyze, and visualize data to derive actionable insights
• Apply machine learning algorithms to solve real-world problems
• Software Development:
• Contribute to DIRISA’s data-related software projects
• Use Python, Linux scripting, and web frameworks for prototyping
• Training & Outreach:
• Assist with the DIRISA Datathon Challenge and Coding School
• Update training materials and mentor students
• Research:
• Publish findings and attend conferences/symposiums

Qualifications

• Education:
• Essential: Bachelor’s in Data Science, Computer Science, IT, or Engineering
• Advantageous: Honours degree or certifications in Data Science
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Python, Linux, and data visualization tools
• Knowledge of ML algorithms and software development
• Soft Skills:
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Preferred Experience:
• Participation in DIRISA Datathon (advantageous)
• Academic projects in data analysis or ML
