Description

The Compliance Officer will implement and oversee the compliance strategy aligned to a risk-based compliance monitoring plan. The role ensures business operations are conducted within legal and regulatory frameworks. It involves advising stakeholders, managing regulatory risks, monitoring legislation, and ensuring adherence to laws and standards affecting the insurance and financial services sector. The Compliance Officer will also help embed a culture of compliance through communication, training, reporting, and monitoring activities.

Responsibilities

• Execute compliance monitoring activities per the Compliance Plan
• Monitor and assess the impact of new regulatory changes
• Design and implement compliance training and induction programs
• Advise business on compliance with applicable legislation
• Conduct reviews and audits; handle regulatory breach processes
• Contribute to compliance-related statutory projects and applications
• Maintain compliance records, registers, and trackers
• Research and communicate on regulatory matters and compliance management
• Draft reports and internal communications
• Collaborate with Compliance Manager on business initiatives
• Prepare compliance newsletters and monthly updates
• Maintain CMS accreditation and submit regulatory documentation
• Build strong relationships with internal/external stakeholders
• Support client service improvements and fair treatment principles
• Deliver and uphold service level agreements (SLAs)
• Offer subject matter expertise and leadership
• Support change and continuous improvement efforts
• Share innovative ideas and participate in a culture of quality and productivity
• Take ownership of personal and professional development
• Identify and implement cost-effective compliance solutions
• Escalate unresolved governance and policy issues
• Contribute to risk identification and governance frameworks

Qualifications

• Matric Certificate
• Qualifications as per fit and proper requirements to be registered as a licensed compliance officer with the FSCA (Essential)
• Post graduate qualification in Compliance Management (Desirable)
• Legal qualification (Desirable)
• Degree in Commercial, Risk Management, Audit, Legal, Business or related field (Essential)
• Registered with the Compliance Institute of Southern Africa (Desirable)
• Registered as licensed compliance officer with the FSCA (Essential)
