Assist the Train Driver in the safe and efficient driving/handling of all different types of trains/locomotive consists (airbrake, vacuum, high speed, heavy haul and passengers) to ensure that the customers freight/cargo reaches its destination in good condition, on time, in order to enable the organisation to satisfy the customers’ needs.

Responsibilities

• Sign On & Shift Duties – Report for duty, receive tasks, and prepare the assigned locomotive
• Locomotive Preparation – Ensure the locomotive is equipped, clean, and functional; assist in startup and brake tests
• Communication Equipment Setup – Check and prepare radios, handsets, and telemeters
• Pre-Trip Train Inspection – Verify roadworthiness, attach/detach vehicles, complete documentation, and conduct brake tests

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/ or Physical Science
