The Cadet Fire Fighter Skills Program is a structured training initiative under the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Services Department, aimed at equipping participants with the essential skills, knowledge, and experience required for a potential career in firefighting and emergency response. This program is ideal for individuals passionate about public safety and disaster response, who are physically fit, and eager to develop the technical and operational expertise necessary for a demanding and rewarding profession.

Responsibilities

• Training and Skills Development: Participate in rigorous training programs designed to teach firefighting techniques, rescue operations, and emergency response
• Develop proficiency in operating firefighting equipment and tools
• Learn fire prevention and safety protocols
• Physical Preparedness: Maintain physical fitness to meet the demands of the role
• Engage in regular fitness activities, including endurance runs, strength training, and load-carrying exercises
• Emergency Response: Practice responding to simulated emergencies, such as fire outbreaks, rescues, and hazardous material incidents
• Learn to assess situations quickly and take appropriate action under supervision
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with a team during training exercises to foster collaboration and coordination in high-pressure situations
• Follow instructions from senior firefighters and trainers
• Discipline and Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols during training
• Follow strict schedules, procedures, and uniform requirements
• Evaluations and Assessments: Undergo regular assessments to evaluate physical, technical, and theoretical knowledge
• Demonstrate competence in handling emergency situations

Qualifications

• Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred) 18 years or older Must not suffer from fear of confined spaces or heights Must be medically and physically fit Must be able to work in a team and cope with stressful situations No Criminal Record
