The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join its team, working remotely across multiple time zones (UTC -5 to UTC +3). Reporting to the Machine Learning Engineering Manager, Ilias Sarantopoulos, the Senior Machine Learning Engineer will be responsible for developing, training, deploying, and managing production machine learning models. This role involves collaboration with product teams, Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), researchers, and the Wikimedia volunteer community to create models that enhance Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal teams and the Wikimedia volunteer community to build, deploy, and manage production-scale machine learning models
• Engage with stakeholders to understand and assess their needs, identify necessary tools, gather training data, and design repeatable model training processes
• Deploy models on a production cluster and monitor them over time for optimal performance
• Provide guidance and understanding of machine learning projects to other Wikimedia Foundation teams and the broader community

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a Machine Learning Engineering (MLE) or MLOps role with production model maintenance
• Proficiency in Python and popular machine learning libraries
• Strong background in machine learning, with a focus on natural language processing (NLP)
• Experience working with global, remote teams
• Fluent in English
• Experience in fine-tuning pre-trained models
• Familiarity with ETL processes and data pipeline orchestration
• Experience with pipeline orchestration tools such as Airflow, Kubeflow, or Argo workflows
