Discovery Bank is seeking a Technical Support Specialist: Database Administrator responsible for the administration, configuration, performance, integrity, and security of the Bank’s SQL databases supporting multiple business applications. This role requires close collaboration with IT stakeholders, covering tasks like rapid incident resolution and 24/7 support, while ensuring optimal database performance, adherence to compliance, and risk management. You’ll play a pivotal role in the operational, program, and project support for database management, offering proactive solutions and documenting processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24/7 database administration support as part of a dedicated team
• Configure and maintain database servers, ensuring performance, availability, and security
• Monitor database capacity and forecast resource needs
• Follow change and release processes for software and infrastructure upgrades
• Maintain up-to-date documentation on database configurations and procedures
• Participate in knowledge sharing and technical content review
• Conduct root cause analysis, performance tuning, and optimization for databases
• Escalate and provide recommendations for critical issues
• Support the Programme Office in implementing new services and changes
• Liaise with Change and Release Management on service changes and releases
• Contribute to operational reports and document knowledge for team sharing
• Participate in disaster recovery and resilience planning activities for databases

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification
• Minimum 6 years of experience in SQL database administration
• Advantageous: Experience in Oracle database administration and ITIL Foundation certification
• Prior experience in application or technical support within a corporate setting
• Experience in banking or financial services is a plus
