The Specialist: Media Liaison will be instrumental in developing and managing media relations for the Office of MMC. This position focuses on proactively building a positive image of the Office while ensuring effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. You will manage communications and public relations initiatives, optimizing processes for efficiency and effectiveness. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, an understanding of social media dynamics, and the ability to create compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences, thereby enhancing the City of Johannesburg's public profile.

Responsibilities

• The primary function of this role is to manage media relations between the Office of MMC and the media, ensuring an open and professional image with the City of Johannesburg's media and customers
• Key performance areas include managing communications, planning, process optimization, stakeholder relations, asset management, monitoring, reporting, and governance and risk
• Key competencies include excellent communication, coordination, interpersonal skills, negotiation, conflict management, project management, and adherence to City protocols, legislation, and standards

Qualifications

• Matric Certificate/Grade 12
• National Diploma in Media Studies, Communication, or a related field (NQF Level 6)
• 3-4 years of experience in a similar role
• Valid driver’s license
